EXPERIENCE JAZZ NEXT
FALL IN NEW ORLEANS
with

Dear Jazz Fans:

Join
the Jim Cullum Jazz Band
October 26th to
31st, 2005 for a 2-night jazz experience in the historic New
Orleans French Quarter, followed by a 3-night Mississippi River cruise
with Jim and the Band aboard the most luxurious paddlewheel steamboat
ever built, the American Queen!
In July 2004, a select
group of our friends had a great time in New Orleans and on the
riverboat, enjoying hot music by the Jim Cullum Jazz Band and high-octane fun
in the French Quarter! It's time to make new friends and renew old
acquaintances.
Be
a part of the audience for national broadcast recording sessions of Jim
Cullum's Riverwalk Jazz radio series, now in its fifteenth season
heard on more than 150 PRI public radio
stations in the US, world-wide on XM Satellite Radio channel 133, and
streamed weekly on-demand at
www.riverwalk.org.
Plans are underway for the Riverwalk Jazz team to record Jim
Cullum and the Band on various stops along the way on this Steamboatin'
Adventure in 2005. We'll keep you posted as to when and where we will be
making radio shows as our recording plans firm up. You won't want to
miss a beat!
Itinerary:
1. HISTORIC FRENCH QUARTER OF NEW ORLEANS for 2 nights:
 |
MINI-FESTIVAL, Oct. 26. Shortly after your arrival in
New Orleans, soak up some great
traditional jazz aboard the day liner Natchez with the Jim Cullum Jazz Band, Banu Gibson and her Hot
Jazz, Duke Heitger All-Stars, and the Dukes of
Dixieland.
Left: Banu Gibson and
Her Hot Jazz will again perform aboard the Natchez for our
Mini-Festival. |
 |
CLUB CRAWL, Oct. 27. The next night will include our Club Crawl.
You can find really great jazz in the French Quarter if you know
where to look, and that's where we come in! We'll begin with our own
private JCJB jam session with the house band at the famed Preservation
Hall. Other stops and jam sessions will be announced later, but last
time we sat in at four clubs including
Fritzel's Jazz Pub.
Left: the house band at Preservation Hall. This will be the first
stop on our Club Crawl.
|
 |
PARADE, Oct. 28. The next day we'll have our own second-line, New Orleans-style parade through the French Quarter.
Led by the JCJB, we will add several New Orleans musicians to make up an authentic New
Orleans marching band. We plan to stop at two colorful French Quarter
bars (my favorites) for cold refreshments. This way, the parade will not
be too strenuous!
The fun will begin on the early
evening of October 26th aboard the Natchez, so plan your arrival for earlier in the day! |
2. AMERICAN QUEEN STEAMBOAT

American
Queen Grand Saloon Balcony. The Jim Cullum Jazz Band will
perform in the Grand Saloon on this trip.
THE GRAND AMERICAN QUEEN
The grand American
Queen was constructed in Amelia, Louisiana, and was launched in
1995. Her graceful design was inspired by the most majestic boats
of the Great Steamboat Era, including the famed J.M. White, for
which her dining room is named. Vintage antiques and period furnishings
abound throughout her six elegant decks. Though her glowing
stained glass beauty, gleaming brass accents and polished woodwork were
inspired by those boats of old, she boasts the modern conveniences
expected by today's sophisticated traveler, including elevators, a
bathing pool, an Athletic Club, beauty salon, movie theater and
individually climate-controlled staterooms. Be pampered by an
all-American crew always at your beck and call and relax in an
atmosphere of Victorian charm. Then, each night as you settle into
your comfortable stateroom, lulled to sleep by the gentle, distant
rhythm of the paddlewheel, you'll dream of the adventures that await you
the next morning.
